Tourism India


The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2019 ranked India 34th out of 140 countries overall. India improved its ranking by 6 places over the 2017 report which was the greatest improvement among the top 25% of countries ranked. The report ranks the price competitiveness of India's tourism sector 13th out of 140 countries. It mentions that India has quite good air transport infrastructure (ranked 33rd), particularly given the country's stage of development, and reasonable ground and port infrastructure (ranked 28th). The country also scores high on natural resources (ranked 14th), and cultural resources and business travel (ranked 8th).[12] However, some other aspects of its tourism infrastructure remain somewhat underdeveloped.[13] The nation has many hotel rooms per capita by international comparison and low ATM penetration.[14] The World Tourism Organization reported that India's receipts from tourism during 2012 ranked 16th in the world, and 7th among Asian and Pacific countries.[15]

Tourism sector of nepal


The tourism sector of Nepal enjoyed a phenomenal growth in international tourist arrivals in 2018. The consistent and upward momentum continued throughout the year and the annual arrival figures have reached well above the one-million mark. According to the Department of Immigration, 969,287 international visitors came by air and 203,785 came overland. In aggregate, a total of 1,173,072 visitors visited Nepal in 2018, a cumulative increase of 24.77 per cent over the previous year. India led the tourist arrival figures in 2018 increasing by 25.1 per cent in comparison to the figures of 2017 and reached 200,438. Similarly, arrivals from Sri Lanka increased by 55.7 per cent in comparison to last year. The overall arrivals from SAARC countries registered a strong growth of 26.4 per cent as compared to last year with 301,963 total tourist arrivals. Likewise, 153,602 Chinese tourists visited Nepal in 2018, which is 46.8 per cent more than the arrivals in 2017. Similarly, visitors from Thailand, South Korea and Japan have also increased significantly by 36 per cent, 8.3 per cent and 8.9 per cent, respectively in comparison to the figures of 2017. The European arrivals have also surged with healthy growths from the key markets. Arrivals from the United Kingdom, Germany and France were 63,086, 36,833 and 31,653, respectively with 15.6 per cent, 23.1 per cent and 21.1 per cent growth rates. The total European arrivals in 2018 reached 243,284 with regional aggregated growth of 23.3 per cent. Total number of US visitors to Nepal in 2018 was 91,785, an increase of 16 per cent over the figures of the previous year. Likewise, the number of Australian visitors to Nepal in 2018 stood at 38,408, which is 15.1 per cent more than in 2017. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari, has said that the remarkable growth in the eve of ‘Visit Nepal Year 2020’ has buoyed the spirit of the travel sector. “The last two months of 2018 have alone recorded 47 per cent increase in tourist arrivals as compared to same months in 2017. This has prepared a sound and solid platform to achieve the target of Visit Nepal Year 2020 to welcome two million tourists,” he said.
